Conklin Rural Water & Sewer Servicing

Introduction

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (“RMWB” or the “Municipality”) has been working on the Rural Water and Sewer Servicing Program in Conklin for several years now. Once complete, most of the community will have the ability to connect their homes to the newly installed water and sewer mains. The program outlines a process for each resident of Conklin to apply for a connection to their home which will be largely subsidized by the Municipality.

As mentioned, the program is largely subsidized by the Municipality, however each property owner will be responsible for an application fee of $200 plus a lump sum construction fee of $15,800 per lot which can be spread out over a 25-year period at a rate of $105 through your bi-monthly utility bill.

Service connections are available in most areas, except for Christina Lake.

What are the benefits of connecting early?

Please note that this subsidized program offered through the RMWB Water & Sewer Servicing will be only offered for a limited time only. To avoid paying a much higher cost and a lump sum payment, please be sure to apply within the RMWB’s connection window. The subsidized cost is $16,000 offered through a payment plan over 25 years with 0% interest. Connecting your home after the connection window, will cost you between $30,000 and $75,000 as opposed to the $16,000 with zero interest that is available now. According to the RMWB, the connection window is closing soon and that the Municipality will not be subsidizing trucked water and sewer services for home and no longer will be responsible in coordinating these services. Be sure to apply today!

FAQ

When and Who can I call to stop the trucked supplied services to my home?

Once you receive a notice of completion, you can contact PULSE to stop the trucked services. PULSE is available 24/7 at (780) 743-7000. Voicemail is monitored from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can also submit a Request Form.

What happens if I decide to sell my home; am I on the hook to paying this for the next 25 years?

No, the plan will be carried forward to the new owner. On the other hand, if you do not connect through the current and subsidized program offered by the RMWB, then you will be responsible to pay the whole amount, upfront, and at a higher cost.

What if I’m not happy with the contractor that I chose?

Please contact PULSE and report any issues to the RMWB and if necessary, the RMWB will cancel the contract.

What happens if I do not connect within the connection window?

Connecting your home after the connection window, will cost you between $30,000 and $75,000 as opposed to the $16,000 with zero interest that is available now. According to the RMWB, the connection window is closing soon and that the Municipality will not be subsidizing trucked water and sewer services for home and no longer will be responsible in coordinating these services.
