Working on Canadian Forest Service (CFS) – Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) – Pathway Alliance Project in the Conklin Region.

The CRDAC is looking to fill a temporary position of Field Research Assistant (RA) that will be required joining the CFS research team on field trips in the Conklin region to perform research on the assessment of impacts (i.e., edge effects) of seismic lines on the adjacent treed peatlands.

Tasks & Functions
  • The tasks will include assessment of plant and arthropod biodiversity, as well as performing tree measurements (counts, size, density).
  • Performing measurements of various environmental variables (soil temperature, soil moisture, soil pH, microtopography, light), on treated and untreated seismic lines and the adjacent peatlands.
  • Specific research sites include MEG operational sites north of Conklin, CNRL operational sites at Kirby South, as well as various other sites along the highway 881 (CHRP Area A).
  • Potential out-of-field tasks may include entering data collected in the field, calibration/fixing of field equipment , and general preparation for next field day.

**There is a physical requirement to meet the conditions of this employment. This position requires frequent physical activity such as walking for long periods of time over a mixed range of terrain, frequent kneeling and bending, and working in outdoor weather conditions.**

This is a great entry level position. All necessary training will be provided.

Pay Rate

The pay rate is $22 per hour, working 10-hour work days. This is a temporary, contract position with a term of approximately 3 to 4 months.
