Environmental Technician

The HGC Environment and Regulatory Group is currently seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team of dynamic environmental professionals. This position will consist of field-based work and will be primarily focused on supporting the completion of biophysical field assessments and monitoring programs. Field assessments will include but are not limited to the following: pre-disturbance site assessments, water quality & quantity monitoring, wetland assessments and monitoring, wildlife sweeps/surveys, and ARU and Camera programs.

Position Type:

This position will be based in Conklin and supported out of the Calgary HGC office. The position will include field shifts working on projects in the region on an as occurring basis. There will be additional office-based tasks for candidates interested in office work.

Key Activities:
  • Field planning and execution including:
    • wetland surveys and monitoring
    • vegetation surveys
    • water quality sampling and quantity measurements
    • soils and wildlife surveys
    • camera and ARU setup/takedown
  • Working in tandem with western science partners

  • A willingness to share perspective and knowledge as well as a willingness learn from others and participate in environmental science.
  • As a remote role, it is important that the candidate is an excellent communicator and in contact with their manager.
  • Must possess a Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and legally able to work in Canada.
  • Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, ATV/Argo, WHMIS and TDG Certification considered an asset.
Skills & Knowledge:

For this role we are looking for someone who lives in the Conklin community and is interested and passionate about working outdoors and the region.

The successful applicant will be able to support ongoing environmental programs and learn western science techniques. The applicant should excel in a role where teamwork and collaboration are highly valued. In addition, the role will require a commitment to field work, working away from home for periods of time.
