Kettle River Complex Fire incudes LWF136, LWF142, LWF152, LWF155, and LWF164
LWF 136
LWF136 is located approximately 15 km northwest of the community of Janvier. It is currently 500 hectares (ha) in size and classified as out of control. Fire activity was subdued yesterday due to the smoke. Smokey conditions will persist today and make air support challenging. They will continue to respond when conditions are safe to do so. Crews are preparing for another challenging day for firefighting. There is potential for extreme wildfire behavior once smoky conditions clear. The RMWB has issued an evacuation alert for the hamlet of Janvier. Alberta transportation has closed highway 881. Visit 511 Alberta for more information.
LWF 142
LWF142 is approximately 0.1 ha. It is now classified as being held.
LWF 152
LWF152 was detected on July 16. It is classified as out of control at 305 ha. Airtankers supported this wildfire yesterday with establishing containment lines. There are industrial facilities within a 10 km radius to the wildfires.
LWF 164
LWF164 was detected on July 17. It is located approximately 15km northeast of Conklin along highway 881. It is classified as out of control at 600 ha.
CRDAC spoke with Fire Centre today. The fires have slowed down significantly. There is high humidity, which is causing more smoke to hang low. Centre Fire still has sprinklers ready for Conklin that can be deployed at any time. We can get two buses from Diversified on a moments notice. Centre Fire is moving heavy equipment up to Conklin today (July 20). The Old Lac La Biche Road has been cleared from top to bottom. If it ever comes down to evacuation and 881 is blocked for reason, the Old Lac La Biche Road will be intended to be used as an alternate route.
