Jan 11, 2021 | Announcement

The Conklin Resource Development Advisory Committee (CRDAC) is pleased to announce its success in winning the bid on residential lands in Conklin at an online public auction event on December 8, 2020. The newly acquired lands is approximately 6.84 acres of residential lands in Conklin.

In addition to this, in the fall of 2020, the CRDAC has successfully secured four residential lots from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (“RMWB”) at a nominal value in a mutual effort and commitment to support the community of Conklin and its future housing initiatives. In total, the CRDAC has acquired five lots as highlighted in the attached map.

The case around social/community and affordable housing in Conklin has been tirelessly advocated, researched, and discussed among the CRDAC Leadership, its Administration, and the members of the community. The CRDAC Leadership is pleased and relieved to finally see the fruits of our collective efforts. Although 2020 has been a unique and tough year for many, the Leadership remains grateful for the positive outcomes in 2020 that are especially geared towards developing community and affordable housing in Conklin. We would like to acknowledge and thank all the individuals involved with the Homelessness Committee who have contributed immensely through their participation. We are especially thankful to Cenovus in stepping in to help address indigenous housing crisis in northern Alberta and have included Conklin as one of the six communities for their housing initiative. The CRDAC is surely ringing in the New Year with all the excitement of new housing projects on the horizon! For this specific site of newly acquired lands, the CRDAC is excited to be working on a housing plan. We look forward to providing you with more information as soon as it becomes available. Please stay tuned!

Looking ahead in the New Year, the CRDAC looks forward to working with our partners, namely Cenovus and the RMWB, to develop the much-needed housing for our community.
